Did I have an early miscarriage? ?

My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex one day not trying to conceive or anything. My period came a little over a week too late, it was pretty light. It started to stop like normal then I woke up drenched in blood. I bled continuously for a week with chunks of blood and some cramping. I'm wondering if it's possible I was just a few weeks along and didn't know, and if so, can the doctor know? I have an appointment scheduled with my gyno two weeks from now, about a week after my bleeding stopped. Could the doctor tell?? Any answers are really appreciated, thanks in advance.
